Each year, RidgeGate teams up with the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District to provide free, guided nature hikes throughout the spring, summer and fall. These hikes are led by professional naturalists from SSPRD, and offer insight and education into the natural ecosystems within the open space at RidgeGate, while offering a chance to get some fresh air and exercise. Hikes are free to the public, but registration is required. Please register below!
“Build a Beaver” Family Fun Hike with Beth Hanson and Peggy Wait
Children of all ages carry examples of beaver adaptations up the hill (goggles, flippers, etc.). At the top we’ll assemble our “beaver” as we dress a child in a mixture of man-made beaver props. We’ll close with Beth’s interactive “Beaver Rap.” Kids are welcome, ages 5+ recommended because the trail has some moderately steep portions, but younger kids game for the adventure may come along as well.
