Each year, RidgeGate teams up with the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District to provide free, guided nature hikes throughout the spring, summer and fall. These hikes are led by professional naturalists from SSPRD, and offer insight and education into the natural ecosystems within the open space at RidgeGate, while offering a chance to get some fresh air and exercise. Hikes are free to the public, but registration is required. Please register below!
Insect and Spider Exploration Hike with Beth Hanson and Peggy Wait
Family fun! Come search for and (temporarily) trap some of our invertebrate friends. We’ll use sweep nets and bug boxes before sunset, enjoying the almost full moon rise just as we finish. We’ll learn about the creepy-crawlies we catch and then release them back to the wild. Kids are welcome, ages 5+ recommended because the trail has some moderately steep portions, but younger kids game for the adventure may come along as well.
