Each year, RidgeGate teams up with the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District to provide free, guided nature hikes throughout the spring, summer and fall. These hikes are led by professional naturalists from SSPRD, and offer insight and education into the natural ecosystems within the open space at RidgeGate, while offering a chance to get some fresh air and exercise. Hikes are free to the public, but registration is required. Please register below!
Finding the Awe in Nature (Plein-Air Drawing and Sketching)
Draw on your love for nature and join our Plein-Air sketch & hike. No fancy artistic skills required. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a casual doodler, you’ll want to join this unique hike to experience and capture the beautiful RidgeGate bluffs. You’ll be guided by Carol “Cookie” Peterson, an award-winning local artist, and South Suburban Parks and Recreation District naturalist Beth Hanson. We’ll provide everything you need for a morning of plein-air sketching, including pencils, paper, and clipboards. Just bring your appreciation for the inherent beauty in nature.
Bring along your friends and family to this approximately 1-mile summer hike. Kids are welcome, ages 5+ recommended. Please register below.
