Each year, RidgeGate teams up with the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District to provide free, guided nature hikes throughout RidgeGate’s expansive bluffs trail system.
These hikes are led by professional naturalists from the district, and offer insight and education into the natural ecosystems within the open space at RidgeGate, while offering a chance to get some fresh air and exercise. Hikes are free to the public.
A Walk Under the Full “Flower Moon”: Flower Moon – walk under the full flower moon: Hike up to a breathtaking overlook to experience the rising moon (7:57pm) above the bluffs. We’ll touch on natural history fun facts and toy with night-time optical illusions. Parts of the trail are steep, so wear appropriate footwear and bring walking sticks as needed. Flashlights for emergencies only, please. Sunset is at 8:07, so we’ll be descending using light from the moon and flashlights if needed.
